Responding to adolescent literature in digital arts-based ways involves deep creative / critical thinking. Composing as a response to literature is no longer purely text-based. It is enhanced by color, imagery, sound, narration and music. The process becomes so much more personal, layered with nuances of subtle meaning, taking the reader on a multi-modal journey of interpretive response.
On July 1st, 2010, five graduate students created activities for adolescent literature response. Students could choose, after reading short excerpts of literature, to create a podcast, a digital collage, a comic strip, a movie or photo essay. Students grade 6-12 arrived ready to begin a new journey into arts-based literature response.
